  • Connecting PPTP VPN with Ubuntu 9.10

    I have an ubuntu machine that I wish to connect to a VPN and have traffic routed through that. So far I have installed the pptp-linux package and tried my hand at configuring it manually as well as using pptpsetup. I am using Ubuntu 9.10, but regardless of the method I get "Couldn't find MPPE kernel support". Searching a bit for the problem seems to reveal that Ubuntu DOES come with MPPE kernel support (and has done for quite some time). If anyone can figure this out, you'd be a real lifesaver!

    I have never installed Netatalk before. I have to help someone get this up and running on a Ubuntu 9.10 server and I don't know if there is any special configuration or install steps I need to follow in Ubuntu 9.10 to get it up and running. I know in older versions of Ubuntu, specifically, special OS changes and configuration needs to be done in order to get it to work properly. Do I need to work around any of those issues in 9.10? I am doing this remotely through ssh, so I prefer instruction via command-line. Thanks!

  • How Do I Configure ProFTP for Website Update?

    I am running Ubuntu Server 9.10 with ProFTPD, and I also have Webmin. I have DNS setup for 3 domains, mail setup for 3 domains, as well as Apache2 setup for those domains. They work great. Now I want to give FTP access for an incoming user, but point them to /var/www/[domain] and have them come in as something like user "ftpuser" but want this to translate to user "www-data" so that web permissions will be correct. What is the technique to do this?

  • Ubuntu not booting, recovery mode not loading

    I have a dual-boot Ubuntu 11.10 and Windows 7 machine setup and last night I had to force shutdown Ubuntu during updates because it wasn't responding. Since then, Ubuntu will not boot up, only flashing a blank lit screen for a split second every couple of seconds. Booting in recovery mode does not help either, as it doesn't load at all. If anyone can help me diagnose what's wrong and figure out what to do, that would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi, I have a new laptop which comes with window 7. I want to dual-boot it with ubuntu 9.10. I have burned the install disk of 9.10. But during the install process, I am stuck in 'setup my partition'. It has 2 options: wipe out my whole hard disk' or 'manually configure' I don't want it to wipe out my whole hard disk (i want to keep my window 7). But how can I manually configure the partition to use the free space and create a partition so that I can install ubuntu 9.10 and swap space? Thank you.

  • iPod Touch 2g not recognised by iTunes (more information inside)

    My iPod Touch isn't being recognised by iTunes. Details: iPod Touch: 2nd generation / Laptop: Windows Vista / iTunes: latest version I have tried: using different cables; restarted my laptop and iPod. reinstalled iTunes. restarting services that were made by Apple; putting my iPod into restore mode; resetting my iPod; and still no luck getting it to be recognised by iTunes. This iPod works on other computers, and different iPod's work on my laptop. When I stopped all of the Apple services on my laptop, I got a message from iTunes when I connected my iPod saying that I needed to enable the services for it to work. But when I did enable the services again, the iPod still didn't show up on iTunes. I can't think what else I can do to solve the problem. Any ideas? Thank you very much in advance!

    I have a thinkpad t61 with a UPEK fingerprint reader. I'm running ubuntu 9.10, with fprint installed. Everything works fine (I am able to swipe my fingerprint to authenticate any permission dialogues or "sudo" prompts successfully) except for actually logging onto my laptop when I boot up or end my session. I receive an error below the gnome login that says "Could not locate any suitable fingerprints matched to available hardware."     I'm trying to clone/pull a repository in another PC using Ubuntu Quantal. I have done this on Windows before but I don't know what is the problem on ubuntu. I tried these: git clone file:////pc-name/repo/repository.git git clone file:////192.168.100.18/repo/repository.git git clone file:////user:pass@pc-name/repo/repository.git git clone smb://c-pc/repo/repository.git git clone //192.168.100.18/repo/repository.git Always I got: Cloning into 'intranet'... fatal: '//c-pc/repo/repository.git' does not appear to be a git repository fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly or fatal: repository '//192.168.100.18/repo/repository.git' does not exist More: The other PC has username and password Is not networking issue, I can access and ping it. I just installed git doing apt-get install git (dependencies installed) I'm running git from the terminal (I'm not using git-shell) What is causing this and how to fix this? Any help would be great! UPDATE I have cloned the repo on Windows using git clone //192.168.100.18/repo/intranet.git without problems. So, the repo is accessible and exist! Maybe the problem is due user credentials?

    I have a LAMP server (Ubuntu 12.10) setup on my development machine. It is a T60 modified with an SSD. The server base is in /var/www. The folder for the server is /var/www/sfk/. The framework and all cms relavant features are in their respective folders. The only folder that need to be modified would be the /var/www/sfk/mysite folder. Because of that I want to keep the mysite folder under my home directory and symlink it into the server folder.   • Does the mplayer-mozilla plugin have a problem with long DIVX videos or is this a problem with the U

    Pretty consistently when I'm watching a long DIVX movie in the browser on Karmic - say 2 hours or so - the mplayer-mozilla player stops after a half-hour or an hour and resets back to 0, so I have to reload the whole movie again over the web. It happens repeatedly so I never get past the half-way point in the DIVX version of the movie - I have to watch a flash version instead. I don't know if this is an mplayer issue or a Firefox memory issue. Anyone have any idea how to resolve this?

  • Have Ubuntu 9.10 desktop, just got Macbook Pro. Share over Samba, NFS, other?

    Hi everyone. As the title says, I have and love my Ubuntu 9.10 desktop (use it for programming). Just got a Macbook Pro (Snow Leopard) and stuff like Documents, etc, trying to figure out easiest way to share my Ubuntu desktop with my Macbook Pro. Should I use Samba or NFS and is it easy to configure one (or something else) for only in network access (192.168.1.x). It took me about 2 days to find/setup Macfuse and Macfusion for sshfs to the Fedora web server and I'm hoping there's something much easier for this in network access. But if it requires or is suggested I go ssh, I can do that. Are there any security problems with either Samba or NFS - don't know much about AFP-Apple protocol so I've not brought it up. Thanks in advance.

    I know that there's a Ubuntu-specific StackExchange website, but I thought that I'd ask here because it's a server-specific question. If I'm wrong in my logic... Well, you people are better at this than I am! O=) On with the show! I'm in the process of installing Oracle Database 11g R2 Standard Edition onto Ubuntu Server 11.10. I found a guide on the Oracle Support Forums that walks you through the process fairly easily. Unfortunately, I'm running into issues installing one particular dependency: slapd.     Hello folks, Several days ago, I installed Ubuntu 9.10 onto my Acer Aspire 3100 laptop, running it alongside Widows Vista as a dual-bootable system. Creation of the Ubuntu boot CD went fine, and the installation onto my hard drive was flawless. Ubuntu opens and behaves as I would expect, except for one little problem. For reasons unknown to me, Ubuntu is not communicating with my laptop's networking hardware, and I have no internet connectivity, it works fine under Windows Vista. Up in the right side of the Ubuntu desktop, I click on the network icon and it does not show a wireless connection at all. At home, where I use a dialup modem, I also see no means of getting online. My modem is an HDAUDIO Soft Data Fax Modem with Smart CP,manufactured by CXT (Conexant Systems Inc., file version 4.0.13.0, and the driver version is 7.58.0.0). I am an advanced computer user, but I am not a programmer. I seek a solution that is user-friendly for normal people, something equivalent to a driver that I can easily install or activate that will allow Ubuntu to see my hardware and get me connected. Can anyone help me over this hopefully-little glitch My processor is a Mobile AMD Sempron Processor 3500+ at 1.80 GHz, 1.50 GB RAM, and a 32-bit Operating System.
